Minn. Web Site Creates Health Market
(02-10) 11:58 PST (AP) —
MEDICAL CARE ONLINE: A new Minnesota company called Carol offers consumers the option of searching for medical care online. They can also compare prices and ratings and schedule appointments on Carol.com.
HOW IT WORKS: Health care providers pay to become “tenants” on the site. Carol also gets a fee from the providers when someone arranges for medical care through Carol.com.
ITS GOAL: Carol’s founder, Tony Miller, says the site is a step toward transforming the U.S. health care system by putting consumers in charge and letting the market work. The company will open up a second marketplace in the U.S. sometime this year.
